Teva Pharmaceuticals announced today its first generic-drug partnerships with Pfizer Inc., a global pharmaceutical company that makes generic drugs.
The companies have entered into an agreement that will provide $3 billion in exclusivity on the new combination of Viagra and Adcirca, which will be marketed under the name Viagra Connect, or Viagra Connect 100mg.
The agreement will allow Pfizer to license generic versions of Viagra to a third-party company, the company said.
The two companies will enter into a commercial alliance that will allow the two companies to create a generic-drug company, which will be called Teva Pharmaceuticals Inc.
“This agreement represents a significant step in Teva’s growth as a pharmaceutical company,” said Les Funtleyder, Teva Chairman and CEO. “We expect this deal to provide Teva with the resources it needs to grow its business and to increase its research and development footprint.”
Pfizer said the two companies will collaborate in research and development of new drugs targeting erectile dysfunction and a variety of other health conditions. The company will work with Teva on a variety of pharmaceutical products including Viagra Connect, which is available in generic form under the name Cialis and has been approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration.
Teva said the company will continue to manufacture and market generic versions of Viagra and Adcirca.
